First practiced in the walled cities of ancient Mesopotamia, the process of creating a brick mural or brick sculpture begins with the carving of intricate designs into stacked blocks of wet clay. After the clay is fired, the finished brick is carefully reassembled into its original order, special care being taken to delicately blend the thin mortar lines into the finished relief. "Masonry is a highly sculptural material, fluid in form and wonderfully responsive to the play of light and shadow..." Images in Brick's focus is the creation of the highest quality brick sculpture available. We offer a complete package: award-winning design services, unparalleled sculpting artistry, and the finest masonry installation available. We are the leaders in the industry, and our work is displayed proudly both nationally and internationally. Our handcrafted murals exude natural warmth and tremendous appeal. The applications for brick sculpture are as varied and powerful as your imagination! Jay Tschetter President IMAGES IN BRICK CHECK OUT OUR NEWEST PROJECTS ON WATCH US ON ? 2016 Images In Brick. The design was created by Susan Horn. Sculpture was completed by Tom Meyers and Jay Tschetter at Yankee Hill Brick in Lincoln, Nebraska through October and November of that year. The mural measures 21 feet tall and is installed on a 30ft. radius exterior wall of the new St. Mary's church in Amarillo. As the overall height of the mural was too tall to fit on the easel, it had to be accomplished in two sections. The top half was set up and sculpted, then disassembled, setting the bottom 2 ft. of it aside. Then the bottom half was stacked, with 2 ft. previously set aside added on top so the two two halves blended seamlessly. The project was exceptionally challenging due the large scale of the figures. The sculptors stand at the bottom and pose for a photo to offer a sense of scale, then the upper and lower portions were combined digitally. It consists of three separate murals that were carved in a broad arc, intended to embrace the viewer. IMAGES IN BRICK wanted to carve the center figures in much higher relief that usual - an effect intended to make them seem to dramatically step out of mural. Clay modules that were 12 inches in depth were extruded, which allowed the sculptors to sculpt 8 to 9 inches back into the brick to achieve the desired effect. In the photo to the left, sculptors put the finishing touches on the center mural, stacked on a specially built easel that mimics the arc of the finished mural.
